This session Eundertaken into two parts Ewas designed to
provide participants with cutting edge information and knowledge on the
development of watershed planning and management strategy. Experts were
brought together to discuss the application of Ecotechnologies focusing on
Ecohydrology and Phytotechnologies to address freshwater degradation and
ecosystem protection. By doing so, this session served to raise awareness
and educate participants on how these complementary approaches could assist
in managing freshwater resources particularly rivers, lakes and reservoirs.
Interaction was the key element to the success of this session. Participants
were provided with the opportunity to discuss their thoughts with panelists,
stimulate new ideas, and strengthen their own capacity to deal with specific
challenges.
As part of the Session, a number of demonstrations of new training and
learning systems and tools were launched:
E-learning Training Package on Integrated Watershed Management (UNEP IETC)
Training Package on Eutrophication Management-Numerical Models (UNEP IETC,
ILEC)
Introduction to the UNESCO-IHP computer Aided Learning Programme on Water
Quality Modelling (UNESCO-IHP, VITUKI)
Guidelines for Integrated Watershed management: Phytotechnologies and
Ecohydrology (UNEP, UNESCO-IHP)
