Summary conclusions |
|
The summary conclusions were made by Steve Halls. He highlighted
a number of keywords that came up numerous times during the day - transparency
and reporting initiatives (particularly with local governments); interlinkages,
particularly with water energy, waste etc.; capacity building at all levels,
niche focus, where IETC's niche clearly lies within the urban and water environments;
local action is critical, and partnerships with partner organizations such
as ICLEI and others are critical for implementation; innovation in technology
and related issues; public participation, gender sensitivity/inclusiveness
should be more integrated in IETC's programmes; provision of reliable, accurate,
verifiable information of hard and soft technologies is of fundamental importance
- along with training, capacity building and training; partnerships with a
range of
strategic organizations is needed to implement IETC programmes.
Life-cycle thinking also came up several times, and micro/small solutions
that are decentralized was emphasized. Monitoring and indicator development
was found to be critical.
