Decision making processes for stormwater management have also been developed
(see Regional Overview for West Europe, section 6.2.2). To achieve long term sustainability
goals the concept depicted in Figure 2.49 can be followed. Managers, Developers,
Regulators, Designers and Environmentalists all need to be involved in the decision
making process. Technology choice should include technical as well as 'ross-cutting'
issues (Section 1.3).

Small islands have their particular circumstances, and technology choice. These
are considered in the Regional Overview for Small Islands Developing States Pacific
and Caribbean (3(8) and 3 (9)). A useful publication is Sanitation for Small Islands
- Guidelines for Selection and Development (Depledge, 1997).
