Total Training Duration: 14 - 16 hours
  1. Suggested Introductory Activity (15 - 30 minutes)
    1. Undertake "icebreaker" activity to energize the group. If training for this module is an independent training (i.e. not part of a set of training topics), icebreaker may have to include a "getting to know portion." Otherwise, if trainees know each other already, a fun activity related to undertaking data gathering or research would be a good way to start.
    2. Show the Module Objectives slide and Module Coverage slide (with list topics to be covered) to start the introduction of the training content.
    3. Mention that the major parts of the training are the lecturette input, a major class exercise that will run for 1 - 1.5 days and a discussion of the class exercise experience as a closing activity.

  2. Trainer's Input Guide (60 - 90 minutes)
    1. Proceed with the lecturette by referring to the topical outline for establishing the flow of the lecture. (See Attachment 1 for topical outline). Accompanying slides are provided at the end of this training module.
    2. Elaboration of each slide may be done by referring to the RUEM Reference Paper. Further readings on the subject matter may be done to deepen the presentation./discussion as necessary.

  3. Open Forum (30 minutes)
Conduct an Open Forum after the lecturette. Encourage sharing of clarification questions, experiences/materials read/reports relative to implementing an RUEA.
  4. Class Exercise (10 hours)
Conduct the Module exercise (Attachment 2) according to the instructions in the Trainer's Guide.
  5. Reflections (30 minutes)
Allow participants to do an individual reflection activity and share their reflections on the whole module with the class, as follows:
    1. Trainer writes the following reflection questions on the board:

Based on the Lecturette inputs and Module exercise, reflect on your learnings and insights and answer the following:

      • What are the critical factors that would ensure successful implementation of the RUEA and the use of data it generates?
      • What solutions would you provide to the limitations noted in order to overcome these?

    2. The participants can be given 15 - 20 minutes to write their own inputs to these questions, Then they can be grouped into 4 - 5 persons per group to share their responses for 20 minutes. Within each group, a group member should take note of common as well as distinct responses for purposes of sharing the highlights of the group's reflections to the rest of the class.
    3. The trainer calls the class into a plenary session and asks each group representative to give the highlights of their group discussions by way of sharing top 3 - 4 common responses as well as two of the distinct or unique ones. The trainer notes and summarizes the shared reflection points.
    4. The trainer congratulates everyone and encourages them to venture into undertaking the RUEA for their respective localities.
  6. Closure and Evaluation ( 15 minutes)
Review Module objectives and activities used to achieve these. Distribute and retrieve Course Feedback Forms provided in Part II, Trainer's Workbook. Congratulate and thank participants for their contributions, and award training certificates.
