Funding
The funding mechanism for environmental education and public communication in
developing countries depends on priorities of national environmental politics
and wealth. Many environmental education and communication programs are funded
through international funds. This needs to be changed, and decision-makers
should be encouraged to consider environmental education and community
participation as a priority in their national agendas. International
organisations and funding agencies can help if pressure is put on national
entities and governments which are requesting loans from these agencies related
to agriculture, forestry, management of natural resources, or rural development
to include education.
