INSIGHT, Summer '96 Edition
Japan to Host 7th ISWA Congress and Exhibition
Since its founding in 1972, the International Solid Waste Association
(ISWA) has become the foremost body in solid waste management world-wide.
Its first Quadrennial Congress, held in that year, involved many
specialists in what was then a very young field so far as systematic study
was concerned.
Since then the economies of Asia have grown faster than those of any
other region. The manufacturing businesses of the region bear witness to
its industrial dynamism. It is therefore appropriate to hold the 1996
Quadrennial Congress in Asia, where Asian entrepreneurs and Western
specialists may together address the waste management needs of the new
century.
During the International Congress and Exhibition, poster sessions will
be held daily at the conference centre to answer questions and exchange
opinions. Visits to incineration, final disposal and recycling facilities
are planned on November 1 for those participants who are interested. An
exhibition is scheduled from Monday, Oct. 28, to Thursday, Oct. 31, 1996,
at the Exhibition Hall of Pacifico Yokohama's Convention Centre in the
Minato Mirai 21 District in Yokohama City. At this exhibition, waste
treatment, disposal and recycling equipment including the very latest
technology from all over the world will be displayed and demonstrated. The
exhibition is expected to provide an excellent opportunity for the
exchange of information needed to further the world's receptiveness to
recycling.
