Technology Options for the Global Climate Change

"Currently available energy and environmental technologies can only be expected to provide a partial solution to the longer-term concerns about global climate change. The development and deployment of new and improved technologies will be essential if atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases are to be reduced significantly." In the light of this challenge, as postscripted on their new Scoping Study, the International Energy Agency (IEA) and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) have made a broad-based assessment of technology options and development needs, aiming to assist governments and international organizations in their efforts to respond to global climate change challenges. The report, of course, does not provide any handy, short-term solutions; its principal purpose is rather to establish a basis for a new dialogue, among OECD member countries and between industrialised and developing countries, on technology development action needed to respond to global climate change concerns.
