INSIGHT, Spring '96 Edition
Pilot Workshop Scheduled on Adopting, Applying and Operating ESTs in
Dresden
UNEP IETC, in cooperation with the Centre for International Postgraduate
Studies in Environmental Management at the Dresden University of
Technology, is preparing a pilot training programme on adoption,
application and operation of Environmentally Sound Technologies (ESTs).
The progamme will be implemented during a pilot workshop (2-10 September
1996) at the Dresden University of Technology, Germany. Using a training
needs assessment, UNEP IETC has identified which substantive issues should
be covered in the training, and the results of the assessment will be
published as part of a new IETC Report Series.
Training Content: The training will be designed to combine
proactive sessions, exercises and small-group work, including site visits,
that address the following key issues: - Requirements for adopting,
applying, operating ESTs; - Contributions of ESTs to the sustainable
development of large cities and freshwater resources; - Potential
environmental impacts of technological solutions and innovations; - Design
and implementation of regional/national training events for local managers
from the private and public sectors on adopting, applying and operating
ESTs.
Target Audience: The training programme is mainly targeted
at government, civil-society, and industry decision-makers from developing
and transition countries working in the area of technology
implementation/regulation and those with responsibilities that involve
environmental issues. A limited number of senior to mid-level managers of
(environmental) training centres will also be targeted in order that they
may facilitate the implementation of future regional and/or national
training events.
Applications (no more effective): The Dresden pilot
training programme will be conducted in English. Application forms can be
requested directly from IETC's Osaka office or from Dresden University of
Technology, Centre for International Postgraduate Studies in Environmental
