Environmental Management Systems for Cities
An Environmental Management System (EMS) provides a systematic way to ensure environmental issues are managed consistently and systematically throughout an organization. For cities and local authorities, an EMS can assist in comprehensively addressing environmental issues, while achieving increased credibility with key stakeholders, including regulatory agencies and citizens.

Energy for Cities
Green House Gases (GHGs) emissions and energy demand have risen high on the global environmental agenda - given the magnitude of GHG emissions from cities, urban energy efficiency is a significant challenge that requires special consideration. The role of city planners and the construction industry is essential as they create the necessary pre-conditions for energy savings opportunities to be realised.

Sustainable Building and Construction
Buildings, infrastructure and the environment are inextricably linked. Energy, materials, water and land are all consumed in the construction and operation of buildings and infrastructure. Environmentally and economically sound design and development techniques are critical to design buildings and infrastructure that are sustainable, healthy and affordable.

Innovative Communities
In recent years, considerable attention has been given to the position and role of the community as an important element in the success of local environmental management processes. With this in mind, the project attempts to highlight the concept of innovativeness within whole communities (and not just individuals) that will enable them to understand and analyze the environmental problems they face, identify, collate and enhance local resources that they have access to, and implement and manage environmental projects.

  • WiseWater
  • WiseWater is a spreadsheet application for projecting reductions in Water Consumption Patterns after application of Environmentally Sound Technologies. It is included as part of the publication "Every Drop Counts: Environmentally Sound Technologies for Urban and Domestic Water Use Efficiency".
  • Pamolare
  • PAMOLARE is an environmental modelling tool to forecast the changes in water quality leading to the eutrophication of Lakes and Reservoirs.
The versatility of PAMOLARE allows for its use in decision making process as well as for training purposes.
